Be Present to the beauty around you

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Spring in the Sonoran desert is absolutely gorgeous. Whenever I am outside, I try to become present to nature and soak in all that good energy.

No matter how many times I see a saguaro cactus, I am always in awe how majestic it looks! (Did you know the saguaro only lives about 200 years and it takes 50 years to sprout arms?)

Last week, my daughter and I went to the Desert Botanical Garden. The live butterfly exhibit was filled with beautiful butterflies. My daughter was enthralled when they kept landing her and one of them decided to perch on her hand for 10 minutes!

Letting your Light Shine!

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Today is the start of the Motherhood Redefined conference, an event just for moms. I will be speaking and teaching a workshop on “Creating a Life You Love”. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help other moms begin the process of finding their True Self and live a live they love.

Also, today is the International Day of Peace, which reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from A Return To Love by author, Mariannne Williamson:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I encourage you to look within at your fears and see how you can find peace within yourself to let your beauty and light shine.

Internal Makeover 101

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

So you just bought a new wardrobe, stylish shirts, designer jeans and Italian shoes, you have a new hairstyle that can only be recreated by using no less than 3 products, and you are doing research on breast implants and liposuction …

Physically you have exhausted all the resources in the Makeover Department…but you still don’t feel completely confident about yourself and watching one more episode of Extreme Makeover just doesn’t seem to make a difference. So what is missing?!? An internal makeover.

Often times people go into physical makeover mode thinking it is the final piece to give them that extra boost of confidence. However, in the end, if you don’t like what you see on the inside, no amount of styling gel or designer clothing will change that. If you hate yourself, you will eventually hate your makeover too.

The truth is if you don’t like yourself it shows and it is a huge turn off for anyone wanting to get to know you.

So Internal Makeover 101 begins now… do these three things and you will be on your way to enhancing your innerself.

  1. Change the way you talk to yourself. Everytime you criticize yourself, make sure you turnaround and say something great about yourself. If you have a hard time coming up with good things…ask a friend to list all the great things about you. Take good notes and keep the list in your wallet.
  2. Take a media break. Stop reading magazines and watching television shows that are filled with “beautiful” people that have been digitally enhanced anyway. Makeup and Photoshop can do wonders for anyone.
  3. Focus on the good. If you don’t have the classic, striking good looks of Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt, consider what else about you can be considered sexy, beautiful and downright irresistible. Do you have breathtaking eyes? A dynamic smile? An infectious laugh?

By all means do a little external sprucing, can’t we all use a little dusting off once in a while? If you do choose to do an External Makeover, here are some tips:

  1. Keep it real. No one expects you to look like you just stepped out of Glamour magazine on a daily basis. Do you even know what your natural haircolor is anymore? It might actually be more flattering on you! Also, you don’t have to have 30 different pairs of black shoes. Do this for you and not to please someone else.
  2. Keep it simple. Spend less time getting ready in the morning and you will have more time for something else!
  3. Keep it clean. Just like your mama told you – your clothes (and underwear) should be clean, pressed, unstained and hole less!
  4. Keep it healthy. Exercise and eat right to maintain a realistic and healthy body. About 1% of the human population has been blessed with Supermodel DNA, if you are not in that minority then just get over it. Do the best with what you have physically. Eventually we all get old, wrinkled and jiggly. Consider doing yoga – it will give you a physical workout and an inner peace with your body.
  5. Keep it responsible. Stay within a budget. It is never a good feeling to have buyers remorse over an outfit that costs as much as a car payment.

Choose your makeover choices wisely, it is less physically and financially exhausting to just be yourself. True beauty emerges when you just be you – now that is refreshing and downright sexy.
